PROJECT 4: SELF-TITLED

INSTRUCTIONS

PROGRESS
WEEK 11 (9/6/2022)
To start off the task, I started filling out details of myself on the google slides guide provided:

Mood board:

I am a huge fan of the scrapbook collage style of posters 2 & 3. I'm excited to get started.

Idea sketches:

Here are my idea sketches as well as mock-ups. They're not messy enough to bring out the scrapbook aesthetic. This needs more development.

WEEK 12 (16/6/2022)
fig 2.1.4 Digital poster progress (20/6/2022)
I decided to ditch the notebook entirely and focus only on the scrapbooking bits. I tried using more 90's retro elements like cassettes and CD-ROMs, as well as bright and funky colours that match the aesthetics.

WEEK 13 (23/6/2022)
fig 2.1.5 poster progress (27/6/2022)
Added some noise filters as well as a photo filter to the elements to give it a more vintage feel. Also added some vignette effects after.

Animation:
fig 3.1.1 animation progress (27/6/2022)
I used photoshop to animate because for some reason I could not save my photoshop file as PSD. It kept being converted to pdf ?! And even though the pdf file shows everything completely fine on photoshop, it was not the case for After Effects. I tried troubleshooting and the chance that my file has been corrupted is high. I don't have time to troubleshoot more and risk losing my original file, so I just proceeded with Photoshop animation,, which I guess wasn't half bad for what I'm planning to došŸ˜¢

FEEDBACK
WEEK 12 (16/6/2022)
Mr Martin states that the idea is okay but the execution needs a lot more work. He suggests that I polish up my digital sketch with the help of references online.

WEEK 13 (23/6/2022)
Mr Martin suggests that I make the post-it note smaller and add more pictures of myself. I should also match the colours.

WEEK 14 (30/6/2022)
Mr Martin thinks the animation speed is acceptable since it mine was a collage style. He suggested I animated the little elements on my face and add a more cheerful music to fit the vibe.

REFLECTION
This is my favourite project from all DPI tasks (not just because it was the last), most probably because it leaned more towards the graphic design side of the spectrum. I was unsure if making a scrapbook collage-style would make my work appear less impressive compared to ones using the surrealism style, but I felt that since this was self-titled, the scrapbooking represented me better. Thanks to that, I ended up enjoying the process as it really felt like I was making a digital scrapbook spread. Getting the chance to create something that felt personal makes all the difference.
It was also fun to experiment with more vibrant colours as well as looking up retro scrapbook styles for inspiration.
I have also managed to explore timeline animation in photoshop which I have never really gotten a chance to try out besides during the short tutorial.
Overall I'd say it was a great experience and learning process! Another assignment down! Until next timešŸ„‚
