Project 1 Exercise 1: Audio Dubbing

Progress
WEEK 2 (5.9.2022)
fig 1.1 audio dubbing progress (11.9.2022)

To start off, I downloaded some sound effects like cat meowing, children giggling, women laughing, leaves rustling etc from freesound and freesfx. I also downloaded the sad calming ambience piano music from bigricepiano. I adjusted the pitch & speed of some of the effects as well as added some audio transitions to them.
Here's the result (no voiceline ver):

Voice recording voice lines:

I used an online voice recorder and my earphone microphone to do this. Not the most professional set-up, but if it works it works I guess.
After the feedback, I added more ambience tracks as well as the footsteps for the girl. Despite being quite fitting to the scene, the music track was not allowed and hence omitted. I also turned up the volume for the male's voice.

Project 1 Exercise 2: Sound Shaping

WEEK 5 (26.9.2022)
To start off, we were given a sample track to try on. Here are the results for the sample tracks for phone call & closet.

Now onto the real deal. We were given a new audio track to work on and are required to shape it into the 4 categories stated above.

I played around a bit more by adding some water ambience to the 3rd bathroom track.

Project 1 Exercise 3: Sound Design

WEEK I was already on holiday (12.12.2022)
When you're already on holiday and you find out there's ANOTHER exercise that WAS NOT BRIEFED about AT ALL now you have to crawl back to do it. I hate it here.

deep breaths. deep breaths.

So in the lecture, we were supposed to share our thoughts on what makes the crispy sound effects of the Mcdonald's fried chicken ad (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjrXt-jvWaw), and personally, I think its the crunching of paper.

Next, we move on to the tutorial part of the video. We were guided to play around with the sample sound provided by adjusting the pitch.

Reversing sound clips:

Layering:

Moving on, we're required to carry out the rest of the exercise to create a punch sound and an alien voice.

Feedback
WEEK 3 (12.9.2022)
Omit the music and make sure the ambience sound is consistently present throughout the clip. The volume of the male's voice needs to be increased.
WEEK 4 (19.9.2022)
Add a footstep sound effect to the scene with the girl. Add more ambience tracks.

Reflection
The audio dubbing exercise was fun to do. It was my first time recording dialogue and dubbing a scene myself. The pitch adjustments were pretty cool. There are a lot of minor details to take into account when adding the background ambience and sound effects. Still a bit salty that no music is allowed for the final submission.

It is also my first time messing with Adobe Audition. It was pretty fun playing with pitch and tunes and overall a great skill to learn. Really hoped we were able to explore more with it, though.
